Job Duties:

The Journeyman/HVAC/R Electrician position involves the performance of all phases of duties required of a Journeyman HVAC/R Technician and Journeyman Electrician that are essential in order to assure that the environment of the facilities is as efficient, comfortable and as safe as possible using existing equipment; and that all electrical equipment is properly maintained so the facilities can operate safely and the individual can function normally. These duties are performed while endeavoring to comply with all ADA guidelines and ascertaining that all necessary precautions are taken to ensure the safety of Athens State University faculty, staff, and students and visitors.

DUTIES:
• Performs maintenance and repairs HVAC equipment to include: changing air filters, oiling and greasing bearings, replacing belts, replacing compressors, repairing refrigerant leaks and operating vacuum pumps and recovery equipment
• Performs maintenance and repairs on refrigeration equipment to include walk-in coolers/freezers and ice machines
• Installs HVAC equipment
• Performs sheet metal lay-out and fabrication duct work and flashing for new installation and repairs
• Installs and maintains electrical equipment to include control panels on HVAC/R equipment, motors, starters and relays
• Installs and repairs electrical circuits in buildings
• Repair and install light fixtures to include ballasts, bulbs, bulb sockets and wiring
• Install breaker panels and replaces circuit breakers in electrical panels
• Perform all other duties as assigned



Required Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Ten years HVAC work experience or post-high school training/certificate
• Industry knowledge of the techniques and principles in the operation of refrigeration and air conditioning systems
• Industry knowledge in the principles of ventilation
• Industry knowledge in using and maintaining various equipment such as vacuum pumps, oxygen/acetylene torches, recovery equipment, volt ohm multimeter, etc.
• Industry knowledge of the principles of electricity and proper electrical procedures
• Industry knowledge of principles and procedures of arc welding
• Industry knowledge of building automation controls
• Industry knowledge of chillers and boilers

REQUIRED LICENSE, CERTIFICATION OR SPECIAL CREDENTIALS
• Alabama Gas Fitters License
• Maintain EPA Certification for refrigerant usage by attending seminars and passing written exams
• Valid Driver’s License

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams and blueprints
• Ability to utilize computer equipment
• Ability to organize and plan daily work assignments
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to react to change productively



Salary Schedule:

Salary Band: P490
